A Nation Masturbates...

I absolutely hate when some media does this. Not least because in Canada, it becomes ultra-nationalist material but also because we're all the FUCKEN SAME!!!!

I wish someone woke up, admitted that we're all brainwashed into thinking Canada is the best country in the world and that everyone on this planet wants to be Canadian ONLY BECAUSE WE NEED OTHERS TO TELL US HOW WE'RE GOOD SINCE WE CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT ALONE!!!! This has a name: POST-COLONIAL SYNDROME.

Btw the magic words of the elections have been pronounced: "comme au Danemark". It had to come up at some point, it did. But will Politiken and its competitors publish Danneborg-masturbation editorials because Québec politicians want to imitate them? No. They don't need anyone to tell them they're good, they know it.

Now if you want to laugh, in French it was reported "upside down": Iran and Israel have the worst influence on world affairs

J Law from Canada writes: I was wondering how this could be? If a person was to read all the negatives about our country in the news medias of Canada I am really surprised that anybody would like us at all.

I think this says it all.

Noone appreciates what he has.

Canada DOES HAVE an exremely positive image in the world, and its not because of any machinations by your media, so quit shitting on your own face. There's no conspiracy, forget this self denying attitude.

I repeat the golden principle: if it was the shitty place you constantly claim it to be, there wouldnt be so many ppl wanting to move to Canada.

Oh Canada! It's a loverly place, especially compared to "Jesusland" to its south. Quebec is a nice country too. Some of the best food I've ever had was on trips to Montreal and Quebec City. Yum.
The grass is always greener on the other side, though. Fact of life...

Now, i can understand why Jo is so prone to dismissing his country as he's been in a constant conflict with his identity ever since the age of 5. But it doesnt mean this attitude should be imposed to everyone else. Its the same situation about that now-famous Frau Perschke. One single mean lady who behaved bad doesnt represent the whole system. Moreover, Jo has been told on several occasions by Germans that the above mentioned lady wasnt right and that she did a wrong thing. But he still makes it sound as if the whole German bureaucratic machine has conspired against him. A claim which i am not prone to taking for granted.

Well on the other hand...America is a land beloved by immigrants and 299,999,999 of its inhabitants with the exception of perhaps, me. I'm not an America-hater, just an "America-disliker", to the point of inventing my own country to at least imagine I don't live in the US of A. So I understand the phenom, and having a unique ability to see right through the myths and jingoism of one's homeland. I'd take Berlin over Montreal too, but I won't have either choice. Looking on the Bright Side of Life, Jo will...

Not liking the place one lives [in real] is not / should not be the main reason for inventing one's own country. It wasnt my case, for example.
It should rather be a result of one's own inspiration, imagination and idealism. Mainly. Which was your case, i'm sure.

Alphistia was already long invented before I decided I wasn't very fond of the USA as I was experiencing it.
